How to Understand the Bible

Later we will go into how to avoid false teachers, groups, and deceptions. At first the most important way to understand the meaning of the Bible is by what the Bible, the word of God says about studying and learning God's way of thinking. Beware of Bible lessons that are a man's opinion sprinkled with a few words from the Bible out of context. In our studies we will summarize what the Bible says and give you the Bible references to look them up for yourself. Let the Bible, God's words, reveal their own meaning. We will recommend some tools you can use to help you explore God's word. Many good Bible tools are available for free.
The word of God is your filter through which you sift distortion, it holds the key to the promises of God for health, prosperity, eternal life, peace, joy, and all good things. It contains the power to change your life and the lives of those you love. It is the window for seeing the future and learning from the past. It is our Sword of power for followers of Christ to help you win your spiritual battles. The reason most Christians do not experience the fullness in life that is rightfully theirs, is because their battle sword is the size of a toothpick. Spend time in the word of God and learn to use your sword.

Look up these verses in your Bible:
1. All scripture is inspired by God and is very useful, (2 Timothy 3:16).
2. God’s word is our sword for attacking the enemy, (Hebrews 4:12; Ephesians 6:17).
3. It is the power of salvation, (Romans 1:16).
4. It will stand forever, (Isaiah 40:8).
5. It is spiritual food that causes your spirit to grow in strength, (Deuteronomy 8:3; Matthew 4:4).
6. We get more faith through the word of God, (Romans 10:17).
7. The word will light your way and give you understanding, (Psalm 119:105, 130).
8. It brings you blessings if you obey it, (Luke 11:28).
9. God’s Word gives us victory over sin, (Psalm 119:11).
10. God’s words are spirit, life, and health, (John 6:63; Proverbs 4:22).
11. It gives us hope and teach us, (Romans 15:4).
12. The Word warns us of things to come and results of sin, (1Corinthians 10:11).
13 Mistakes in doctrine are caused by not studying all of God’s word, (Matthew 22:29).
14. To ignore God’s Word and not study it is very dangerous to you and your children, (Hosea 4:6).

God's Way to study the Word of God:

1. First of all, pray that you understand the word of God, (Psalm 119:18).
2. Read it and teach what you know, (1Timothy 4:13).
3. Meditate on the word, (Psalm 119:97).
4. Memorize the word, (Deuteronomy 11:18).
5. Practice it. Do what it says, (James 1:22; 27).

There are many ideas about how to properly interpret the Word of God. The best way is to let the Word interpret itself whenever possible. Cross reference verses to other verses to understand what is being said. In advanced studies, we need to look at the original languages and cultural context for deeper meaning. God is a just God so He would not judge us according to His word if His words were impossible to understand. Therefore, the Bible was meant for us to understand. It is a myth that it is too difficult for everyone to understand. This belief appeals to some because it relieves one of the responsibility of studying God’s word in depth. This myth is still pushed by people who want to control the masses by distorting God’s truths. They will attempt to brainwash you into believing that only special people or leaders can understand and teach God’s word. Run from these false teachers. God is just; He made His words understandable to those who seek His truth rather than their own desires or the delusions of those they follow. Later, you will learn that God’s Spirit coming within you is the only teacher you truly must have.

Which Bible Version?

What version should I chose? This is mainly a matter of preference. Some of the most accurate modern translations are the New American Standard Bible, (NASB), and the New International Version,(NIV). NASB is preferred by scholars for it's literal accuracy, while the NIV is preferred for easier understanding and it's focus on the meaning of phrases. Many people prefer the King James Version, (KJV), because in the past it was considered the most accurate translation. The Amplified Bible expands on each verse giving more details than the other versions, but sometimes is so wordy that it becomes difficult to understand. Look at a few versions and select the one you are most comfortable with.
